A dental crown is a strong, natural looking porcelain or composite resin “cap” that rests just over the original structure of the tooth to improve its strength, size, shape or color. Using state-of-the-art CEREC technology at our Rancho Peñasquitos office, Dr. Lee is able to custom design and mill your ideal dental crown in our office for its optimal look and feel. Patients aren’t kept waiting on a dental lab to respond and can enjoy superior quality results.
If you or a loved one has been seeking natural-looking dental restorations, we offer same-day solutions with CEREC technology. We can tailor treatment to your needs, and guide you toward a healthier, stronger smile. Our Rancho Peñasquitos dental office provides:
Same-day solutions
In-office custom crowns
We don’t all have the time in our schedules to sit through multiple dental visits, even when we need restorative care. For repairing smiles in a timely and highly effective way, the answer lies in CEREC technology. Offering same-day dentistry in Rancho Peñasquitos, Poway and throughout San Diego, we allow patients to receive the highest quality, natural looking crowns in just one visit. Call us at (858) 484-4880 to schedule your appointment.
When we make your crown in-house, it allows us to make adjustments and offers less room for error, meaning you'll get a crown with a better fit.
Temporary crowns can be ill-fitting, awkward, and uncomfortable. With CEREC same day technology, we can skip the temporary solutions.
The biggest problem with traditional crowns is waiting for them to be made. Our in-office milling unit produces your crown in minutes, not weeks.
CEREC, also known as Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic, uses computer-assisted design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to restore areas of damage and decay, and create a stronger, more natural-looking smile in as little as one visit. Using high quality porcelain and ceramic, dental restorations with CEREC look natural, feel strong and are built to last – just like your natural, healthy teeth.
CEREC technology is a state-of-the-art form of advanced dental technology that incorporates digital imaging software with a custom milling unit to create personalized crowns in the matter of minutes. Unlike traditional dentistry that requires patients to wear a temporary crown for a period of about 2 to 4 weeks, CEREC creates high quality dental crowns in-office with no need to wear a temporary crown. Each crown is customized to the highest detail of size, shape and color out of a strong, natural looking porcelain material. Your rejuvenated smile will look natural and feel healthy and strong.
CEREC crowns can last many years by maintaining a good dental hygiene routine and coming in every six months for a regular checkup. If you desire better health and comfort for your smile with same day dentistry, do not hesitate to call us at (858) 484-4880 and ask questions or schedule a consultation! We look forward to providing you the dental care you deserve in a warm and welcoming environment.

For patients who are looking for a comfortable and long-lasting dental solution, custom dental crowns are quickly becoming the standard of restorative dental care. Using CEREC, patients experience numerous cosmetic and health related benefits:
Dental crowns are one of the best options used to extend the life of a damaged, misshapen or weakened tooth. Because our philosophy at Carmel Mountain Dental Care is prevention, we only recommend dental crowns if they are necessary. The following are the most common reasons why patients may need a dental crown:
CEREC technology is a state-of-the-art form of advanced dental technology that incorporates digital imaging software with a custom milling unit to create personalized crowns in the matter of minutes. Unlike traditional dentistry that requires patients to wear a temporary crown for a period of about 2 to 4 weeks, CEREC creates high quality dental crowns in-office with no need to wear a temporary crown. Each crown is customized to the highest detail of size, shape and color out of a strong, natural looking porcelain material. Your rejuvenated smile will look natural, and feel healthy and strong.
We use cutting edge CAD/CAM technology to generate high-quality 3D images of your smile in just seconds. There is no need for messy impressions or tedious waiting for the mold of your teeth to be prepared. From these dynamic digital images, your dentist is able to personalize your ideal crown and color-match it to your existing teeth for a seamlessly beautiful smile. Once the design has been agreed upon, comprehensive software communicates with the CEREC milling unit to craft and produce your new crown in-office while you wait. After one visit to the dentist your brand new smile goes home with you in the same day, at your convenience.
CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and is a method of same day dentistry that was first developed more than 20 years ago. Using CEREC methods, Dr. H. Jonathan Lee can provide same day crowns in Rancho Peñasquitos, 4S Ranch, and Del Sur.
This method of dentistry uses specialized CEREC CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) tools that are built to create dental prosthetics like crowns, veneers, and more in our office, rather than at an outside dental lab.
Rather than sending out impressions of your teeth to a dental lab, Dr. Lee can simply load a block of porcelain into the CAD/CAM machine. Using scans of your mouth, they can create a crown that fits onto your teeth perfectly, and the machine will automatically cut the crown out of the porcelain block, providing you with a crown in a day.
In most cases, CEREC crowns are about the same price as traditional, lab-made crowns. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to provide you with an accurate estimate for the cost of a CEREC crown unless you come into Carmel Mountain Dental Care for a consultation.
This is because each patient is different. The cost of your CEREC crown depends on the damage to your tooth, the location of your tooth, your overall oral health, and a number of other factors.
If you’d like a cost estimate for a CEREC crown in Rancho Peñasquitos, Rancho Bernardo or Poway, just contact Carmel Mountain Dental Care now for an appointment. They’ll determine if you are a good candidate for a CEREC crown, and give you an estimate of how much your crown will cost.
Compared to traditional crowns, CEREC crowns are superior in a number of ways. First, they are much faster. You will get a crown in just one day, instead of two appointments over a 2-3 week time period. You also do not have to wear a temporary crown, since you’ll leave our office with a brand new tooth. Temporary crowns don’t always fit perfectly, so they can be bulky and uncomfortable.
However, CEREC crowns are not always superior to traditional lab-made crowns. If your tooth is broken off below the gum line, for example, the 3D imaging tool used for CEREC dentistry won’t be able to capture it accurately, so you won’t be able to get a CEREC crown.
CEREC crowns are also slightly less durable than traditional crowns. This is because they are milled from a solid block of porcelain, which is relatively brittle. Lab-made crowns usually use a metal base and a porcelain tooth, which means they are less brittle compared to CEREC crowns, and are better for restoring rear teeth, which undergo a lot of stress and wear & tear while chewing.
